Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 8.51.53 PMIf you need a break from deer hunting, or are looking for something to do during the time between duck splits, don’t forget this is a great time of the year to go squirrel or rabbit hunting. The cold weather has many of the hardwood trees almost bare of their leaves and the woods is a lot more open. Best spots to go for squirrels are around den trees early and late and around oak trees that still have acorns either on the tree or on the ground.

Make sure you check the rules and regulations for squirrel and rabbit. There are plenty of places to go. Most WMA’s and federal refuges have great squirrel habitat and this time of year, they don’t get too much pressure. These are two game animals that also are fun to take kids hunting for.
