The bass spawn may be almost over, but the largemouth lunker landing at Bussey Brake isn’t.
At least two 10-plus bass have been caught and released in the lake the past week. Local angler Veronica Self-Jacobs landed a 10.2 pound trophy. Then Baton Rouge 17-year-old Hunter Hamilton stayed over from the high school state tournament on the Ouachita River over the weekend and fished Bussey on Monday. He landed a 12.63 pound hawg.
Both fish had already spawned or they would have weighed a pound to two pounds more full of eggs!
Enjoy fishing, but practice conservation. Follow the special limits on Bussey and consider letting all the big ones go. If we manage this lake right, the best is yet to come for anglers years into the future.
