Day 17: Good beginning for second split

ooiSaturday the second split of the East Zone opened with good results. I didn’t get to go because of how busy a day it is at the store, but the two groups that went to our spots did good. One group of five hunters got 26 and a group of four hunters had 24 ducks. There was a good mix and about half were mallards. That’s good. It’s better than I thought. I’ll be back out there tomorrow and hopefully we have a good morning.

Most of the people that I talked to that had good spots had good days. They were all in double digits with ducks. There were a few that got 7-8, but most groups had success. Everyone was seeing a good many ducks, although some reported they were hard to work. We have a lot of ducks, but something else is going to have to happen weather wise to get some more ducks down here for a successful second split. Right now we have enough ducks to last four or five days it appears.

The bad news is that it looks like it is going to be warm and raining a lot the next few days. Ducks and 80-degree weather don’t mix. But you never know. I have killed them when I was wearing a short sleeve shirt before. But that’s the exception instead of the rule.

Christmas is getting close. We’ll be open at Simmons’ Sporting Goods Sunday from noon-5 p.m. and then Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. We will close Christmas Eve at 5 p.m., then be closed Christmas Day. We’ll back back full speed again on Saturday for all your post-Christmas shopping!
