The second split opened Saturday and it was alright. I was a bit worried based on what we had been seeing, but a lot of ducks came in the last couple of days. We had a good hunt early, but I had to leave and get in to the store. Our group had 14 when I left about 8 a.m. and we ended up with 19 total. I heard from several groups that limited out or almost limited out with some mallards, pintails and teal. it seemed like there were a lot of teal in several places.
We also had a lot of mallards in some areas. If we would have had some wind this morning, I think it would have been fantastic the first hour or so, especially with the mallards.
I don’t know how long it will last if we don’t get some new birds, but maybe all this weather change will bring some more in. Plus, they are hitting them pretty hard up in Arkansas again now that they are back open.
Of course, it wasn’t that way everywhere with the big ducks. Some people had a hard time. Looks like we may be getting a little wet early in the morning, but maybe most of it will be passed through by the time we head for the blind. Days like this is why you need to have some of that good waterproof gear from Simmons’ Sporting Goods. Looks like there will be more rain later in the week. Goodness knows we need it.
