Day 18: Still a lot of ducks

Screen Shot 2019-12-15 at 6.56.50 PMWe are still blessed with a lot of ducks in a lot of areas up in this part of the country. We’ve had some good hunts and good conditions. The big ducks aren’t down here in big numbers yet, but there are reports of good numbers not far to the north.

We had a good hunt today. Three of us killed 18 ducks — three pintails, four gadwalls and the rest teal. It was foggy early and we couldn’t see much. When they did come down out of the fog they worked pretty well. We weren’t exactly on the Olympic shooting team today and that’s all I’ll say about that. But we got through about 8:30 or so. We had one good group of mallards come over and worked, but they wouldn’t quite get right. I think it was the cloudy weather. We had a good win, we just couldn’t see very far and it made the ducks spooky.

From what I can tell, a lot of folks are getting in some good shooting. Some of the traditional hotspots down south of Monroe have been a little slow cranking up the second split, but it’s about to get right. After this rain, it looks like a week to ten days of great weather. I know one thing for sure, just about everybody is happier right now than they were the whole season last year.

We had kind of a celebrity day yesterday. We often have well-know people come in the store and yesterday the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, was in the store Christmas shopping. He’s a long way from Washington!  We also had one of our regulars, former NBA player Scottie Pippen, in for some shopping.

Alright. Time to get after those ducks and if you need Christmas presents, you know where to come. If you need some ideas, just ask. We’d love to help you out.  Be safe  out there!  Take note of the GOOSE HUNTING DATES in the chart below. They are a bit different this year!
