I’ve been saying for a few days that this good south wind would bring back the ducks we lost in the freeze last week. Sure enough, it has. We’ve gotten good reports from all over. We’ve got lots of teal and pintails and there are specks everywhere.
This morning, three of us got our limits by 7:45. We didn’t see any big swarms of ducks, but there are lots of ducks scattered around and flying. The wind keeps them moving, too. That’s the best thing about this weather. I know a lot of people don’t like it so hot, but I’d always rather be a little warm than freezing to death. And the ducks will still hang around when it is warm. They may not feed as much, but they won’t take off back to Iowa or somewhere like that this time of the year.
If it gets below freezing, they’ll leave all the shallows as they freeze and it depends on the weather after that if they come back or not. Things are working out pretty well right now and the next week to 10 days are looking good.
