We had a good New Year’s Day hunt, but we had to stay with them. We got a limit of 36, but we had to hunt until 12:30 and I don’t get to do that very often. We killed most of the ducks between 9:30 and noon. Twenty-two of the ducks were mallards, so as slow as things have been, I’d say that is real good.
We still need some new ducks down here. We were hunting in an area of natural grass that had flooded not far from the Overflow and there’s nothing ducks like better than grass. But it wasn’t easy. We didn’t see swarms of ducks, but they were pretty steady. Some wouldn’t even respond to the calls. Others would lock up, then get close and flare off. But we had some fall right in, so I guess that’s just duck hunting.
