Friday’s hunt brought us to the halfway mark of the 2017-18 duck season. It’s been pretty good at times, but also pretty bad at times. I guess you learn to expect that when you are a duck hunter. I’m thinking — and hoping — that after the deep freeze of the next week passes, things will get better.
There were quite a few folks killed ducks Friday, but it wasn’t early. The ones that did good hunting up till noon or even later. The ducks are just scattered.
We are going up to McGehee tomorrow morning and give it a try. I do know one thing, if you don’t hunt Saturday or Sunday, it may be a while until you go again. I know it will be frozen solid Monday and Tuesday and maybe most of the week. The good news is all those ducks up above us, they are coming this way. They may pass up our area right now, but the first thing when it thaws out and the south wind hits, they’ll be back.
We’ll let you know how it goes in the morning. One good thing for us, folks are sticking with the hunting and they are buying lots of really warm clothing. I like that.
How crazy is this:
