Day 33: Mallards in the woods

Screen Shot 2015-12-19 at 7.54.34 PMWe tried a little something different today and headed up into the flooded woods to try and get some shooting in on mallards. We ended up having a pretty good morning. We got 13 mallards and saw a whole lot of ducks. It was a pretty good hunt. It’s always enjoyable to do something different. As I said, we did see a lot of ducks, including some more mallards. Our best shooting was early not long after daylight. The place we set up didn’t end up being good for us because the wind was coming the wrong way and the ducks had to come over the trees the wrong way.

We didn’t hear much shooting and after talking to folks, it didn’t seem like a lot of people were hunting. It’s been kind of a slow stretch the last few days and that may be why.  It was bright today and we had a strong wind. And the cold was a welcome feel, too. Things were just about right the way we like it.  We are going to go back to the field tomorrow. Don’t forget to stay stocked up on your Federal Ammo for the rest of the season. We’ve got plenty of that at the store.

There are still a lot of folks deer hunting and having some good success. Check out the leaders in our Simmons Big Buck Contest on our homepage.  It’s a good time to stock upon Hornaday Ammo and don’t forget we’ve got plenty of Browning hats and Browning knives to choose from. Thanks for your business and for reading the Duck Report.
