Day 37: Duck hunters win!

I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten rained on in the duck blind as bad as this morning. It was cold, too. We were in a blind we haven’t hunted in a while and it didn’t have a top, but it was worth it. Four of us killed 24, including a lot of mallards, early this morning. There was a stout 20 MPH wind and lots of new ducks in the air. There were more new ducks than I’ve seen in a while. They would come by high in groups of 15-20 and they would respond to the call right off. Not all of them came all the way in to the decoys, but you could tell by the way they were flying and coming to the call that they were new.

That’s a good sign. Maybe it’s fixing to get right for these last few weeks. I know I’m ready. I’ve hunted in the rain four straight days and it looks like 100% chance of rain in the morning. That’s okay if we have wind because the ducks will fly. There may be some bad weather tomorrow, so be prepared.

Next week is looking like duck weather and if we continue to get new ducks, it could be a good one.
