Last year about this time, the big bass in the newly opened Bussey Brake were producing a “WOW FACTOR” for area fishermen. Tyler Stewart landed a lake record at 12.74 pounds. More than three 10-pound plus largemouth were weighed in and verified. As pressure mounted on the reservoir, word was that even more were caught, but folks quit talking about it because there was already enough competition.

This Fall, if conditions are right, we’ll find out a bit more about how many big bass are in Bussey, and nobody that catches one will want to hide the result. Here’s why:

With $10,000 in prizes on the line, look for Bussey to be full of bass fishermen on Saturday, Sept. 25 when the “Baiting on Bussey” big bass event is held. As far as I know, this is the first fishing tournament on the lake since the old days of the Bussey Brake Bass Club or the annual Kraftman Credit Union Picnic and Fishing Derby. Here are a few more details from Brandy Jones and Morehouse General Hospital, the sponsor of the event.
